What is a Pension?

An pension plan is a longterm investment savings plan that helps you put something aside for your retirement. With increased longevity, pensions are an essential part of financial planning. It is important that everyone is aware of their pension outlook early enough to be able to make plans and relevant adjustments.There is lots of flexibility in choice of pension funds and products – we will ensure that whatever we recommend suits your specific circumstances and meets your personal objectives.

Why take out a pension?

  • We’re living longer than previous generations. Upon retirement, on average we will have 20-30 years of retirement. A pension plan will make sure you’re financially sound for these years. Whether you wish to travel, retire to the country, or spend time with your children & grandchildren.

How it works?

  • It’s widely accepted that we should aim to retire on 60% of our final salary.
  • The State Pension is currently at €243.30 per week- if you haven’t made private pension arrangements this is the sum of money you can look forward to surviving for the whole of your retirement!
  • Your CU Insured Advisor will calculate what you might need to start saving in order to help fund your retirement years. Remember, it’s never too early to start and every cent you save is allowable for tax relief at your marginal rate (If you save €200 per month and you’re a 40% tax payer you will earn a tax rebate of €80 per month)
